Three Questions for Furkan Kahya

From Student Worker to SAP Consultant and Developer
Milliarum is characterized by a young, dynamic team: people who want to constantly broaden their horizons and grow personally in our fast-moving industry environment of IT, AI and SAP are exactly right with us. We are specifically committed to promoting young talent.
Furkan Kahya started at Milliarum as a working student and wrote his master’s thesis while working at the company. He is now a full-time SAP consultant and developer. He particularly appreciates the responsibilities involving direct client contact that were entrusted to him right from the start. He feels fully supported by an innovative team with flat hierarchies.
Dear Furkan, why Milliarum?
Furkan Kahya: I studied industrial engineering with a focus on materials and process engineering at RWTH Aachen University. During that time, I was able to gain my first experience with the SAP Project System and S/4HANA integrations while working as a student employee at another company. I wanted to delve deeper into this as part of my master’s thesis. In the process, I realized that there aren’t many software providers specializing in SAP PS and SAP PPM. I came across a post by Freya Wester-Ebbinghaus on LinkedIn and sent her a message. The very next day, I was able to speak with the managing directors via Teams, and that’s how it all began. What started as a brief inquiry has turned into a great opportunity that excites me professionally and fulfills me personally.
What are special milestones on your path at Milliarum so far?
Furkan Kahya: First and foremost, this was my master’s thesis. Since Milliarum develops innovative AI solutions for SAP systems and, at the same time, is deeply engaged with current issues in AI research, I wanted to focus my research approach on this area. In close consultation with Milliarum and the university, I investigated the impact of generative AI on the productivity and efficiency of SAP project management processes. Milliarum supported me in this endeavor with its extensive network within the SAP community. In parallel with my master’s thesis, my experience with SAP PS and PPM also allowed me to contribute to client projects.
What were the key findings from your master's thesis?
Furkan Kahya: It has become clear that there is significant potential for using generative AI in SAP. However, only a few companies have fully integrated it into their SAP business processes so far. There are still many concerns regarding data security, insufficient verification of results, and poor data quality. If companies can address these concerns, AI can reduce the workload, support business decisions, and enable a more efficient use of resources. At major SAP community events—such as the DSAG Technology Days, which I had the opportunity to attend—it’s clear just how much interest there is. The entire team was constantly engaged in conversations at the booth. What’s generating particular interest is that our AI solutions for on-premise systems offer a complementary alternative to SAP’s cloud-based approach. After all, many companies aren’t quite ready for that yet. I find it remarkable to see how advanced Milliarum is in integrating AI into SAP systems, despite having a small team. This is also evident in the tasks I’m assigned: there’s a lot of AI expertise behind them.
Why should young professionals apply to Milliarum?
Furkan Kahya: I like the family-like atmosphere within the team. I get a lot of support, and even the managing directors take plenty of time to answer my questions. We work together as a team, rather than just following a top-down approach, as is often the case in many large companies. If you’re interested in SAP, have some initial experience and technical understanding, and want to grow professionally and take on responsibilities, Milliarum is the perfect place for you. Since you’re directly involved in client projects, you gain a good sense of the entire consulting process and working with clients, right down to the business side of things. But what really impressed me was the innovative work environment centered on current AI topics. For this, Milliarum even receives a federal research grant and is recognized for its innovative achievements with the BSFZ Seal distinguish.
Dear Furkan, thank you very much for the interesting conversation and for your great work as part of the team!
